We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to prevent planning authorities from ignoring planning guidelines, riding roughshod over public opinion and using advisors with a vested interest in the advice they give. More details

Unpopular housing schemes or other major projects are being railroaded through or foisted on the local community against its wishes and with scant regard to the character of the area where it is to be built. Public objections to planning applications have no effect. Legislation designed to protect and preserve conservation areas and built heritage must be seen to be obeyed. To ensure impartiality and objectivity, there must be no overlap of personnel between English Heritage, the various Urban Regeneration Panels and the Council for Architecture and the Built Environment. We ask the Prime Minister to set mechanisms in place to monitor Local Authority planning decisions and to call in all those that are made contrary to planning law.
